The word "Kona" means "corner" in Swahili, Luganda and Hindi. Kona is where both Indian and African influences come together to create the best Afro-Indian designs for a global market. A mix of patterns, styles, colors, stitching techniques and materials form Kona’s unique product line. With raw materials being sourced locally and products handmade by a team of women in Kampala, Kona’s purpose is to create employment and empowerment for local artisans. Uganda has a rich heritage of arts and crafts.
So when Kona decided to launch their homegrown lifestyle brand out of Kampala, the aesthetic and design sensibilities of this country fed their imagination. From the weaves, to the materials used, to the local manufacturing techniques… each and every product in their collection is inspired by the best traditions of Ugandan art. The founder's Indian heritage and fascination for Indian handlooms, patterns and weaves also finds its way into their collection. A button here, a thread there… India and Uganda seamlessly blend into everything created by Kona.
