Faith

Faith

From the moment we stepped into Kampala Fair’s design studio and saw Faith’s smile, we knew we had met someone special. A married mother of three, Faith is one of the senior tailors for the fashion and interior design company, Kampala Fair. Faith speaks two languages Ateso (native tribal language) and English. She is a member of Uganda's Teso tribe and is originally from Kumi.

Kumi, Eastern Uganda

Kumi Town, commonly referred to as Kumi, is a town in the Eastern Region of Uganda. It is one of seven towns located in the Teso sub-region. The sub-region is home to an estimated 2.5 million people of Iteso and Kumam ethnicity.  Kumi is the main municipal, administrative, and commercial center in Kumi District and is the site of the district headquarters. Learn more about Kumi.

Working at Kampala Fair

Although soft-spoken, Faith cannot disguise the passion she feels for her job. As a senior tailor, Faith is responsible for executing the design vision for the brand through pattern making, sewing and alterations.

Faith's work has changed the way she feels about herself. She is proud of the woman she is today because she is setting a good example for her siblings and teaching them that hard work and a good attitude means success in life. Because of her job, she is able to help not only her family with everyday expenses, but she also supports her siblings by paying their school tuition and by purchasing school materials. This has meant a lot for to her family. Faith celebrates her present position in life: a dignified job, a caring community, and the opportunity to give her beautiful children a better life.

Education in Uganda

In Uganda parents pay for their children’s education from the age of 6 (primary school) until age of 18 (secondary education). Payments are broken up over three times a year. In a country where  23 percent of head of households have no formal education, this is often a financial burden for families with low income. Often the fees exceed the household income and as a result children are often forced out of the education system.

We love partnering with amazing companies like Kampala Fair to help women like Faith build better lives for themselves and their families! Want to support Faith and her friends at Kampala Fair? Shop the creations from Kampala Fair.
